Gynecology Q & A

What is gynecology?

Gynecology is a specialized area of medicine that focuses on a woman’s reproductive and sexual health.

The health experts at Bestcare OB/GYN have years of training and experience in managing, diagnosing, treating, and preventing health issues that affect your reproductive system.

They also work hard at helping you maintain good health by providing education, treatments, and other services that may prevent the onset of chronic diseases and elevate your overall health and well-being.

What are gynecology services?

Bestcare OB/GYN is a full-service obstetrics and gynecology practice. The skilled providers offer the highest level of care using state-of-the-art tools and technology.

Some of the gynecology services available at Bestcare OB/GYN include:

  • Well-woman visits
  • Management of abnormal Pap smears
  • Screening and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
  • Contraceptive counseling
  • Diagnosis and treatment of menstrual disorders
  • Menopause management
  • On-site gynecological ultrasounds
  • On-site blood draws
  • Immunizations, including the Gardasil® vaccine for human papillomavirus (HPV)

The practice provides gynecology services for teens and adults ranging in age from 12-65 and older.

What gynecology in-office procedures are offered?

The team performs many gynecology procedures in the office, including hysteroscopy, colposcopy, and placement and removal of certain contraceptives.

Hysteroscopy

A hysteroscopy is a diagnostic procedure that allows your provider to look inside your uterus. Bestcare OB/GYN uses the Endosee® device for in-office hysteroscopies, which is an advanced tool that allows them to see and diagnose problems right away.

Colposcopy

During a colposcopy, your provider uses a magnifying instrument to closely examine your cervix, vagina, and vulva. You may need a colposcopy after an abnormal Pap smear.

Placement and removal of long-term reversible contraceptives (LARCs)

The intrauterine device (IUD) and the birth control implant are considered LARCs. Bestcare OB/GYN places the IUD in your uterus or inserts the birth control implant in your upper arm. LARCs may prevent pregnancy for 3-10 years.

Your provider removes or replaces the LARC per your family planning needs.

What are minimally invasive gynecology surgeries?

Some gynecological conditions benefit from surgical intervention to diagnose or treat the problem. When you need gynecology surgery, the providers at Bestcare OB/GYN use minimally invasive surgical techniques to limit tissue damage and downtime. They also offer robotic surgery using the da Vinci® surgical system.

Some of the procedures they perform using minimally invasive techniques include:

  • Hysterectomy
  • Myomectomy
  • Hysteroscopy with dilation and curettage (D&C)
  • Polypectomy using MyoSure® device
  • Loop electrical excision (LEEP)
  • Endometrial ablation with NovaSure®

Your provider may conduct your minimally invasive gynecology surgery at the office or in a surgical center.
